COUNCIL HISTORY

You may see whole history of Gangbuk district council.

After establishing of Korea government, the first local government act was proclaimed in July 4, 1949. In April 1952, after election of city, eup, and myeon council representatives, and local government started practically. However, it stopped by the military junta in May 16, 1961. In September 1, 1961, after legislation of 'Extra law about local government act', the former local government act lost effect. In April 6, 1988, fully revised local government act by law 400 was proclaimed. In December 31, 1990 the act was revised by law 4310. At last March 26, 1991, local council representative election was held. In April 15, 1091, the 1st district council was started. After that, in March 1, 1995, Gangbuk district was separated from Dobong district by law 4802, the new 1st Gangbuk district council was started.

In proclamation and execution of law about establishment of 9 self-government districts in Seoul and jurisdiction change of metropolitan city, metro city, and province, Gangbuk district was separated and established.

    31 representatives in 18 dongs were elected by the national local election in June 27, 1995.

    17 representatives in 18 dongs were elected by the national local election in June 4, 1998
